90% of the route is off-road riding up and down valleys. We start the ride in Ranco and reach the banks of the River Ticino after about 15 ½ miles.
Once across the bridge over the second sluice gate over the river we turn right and head back up the Piedmontese side of the river to Castelletto Ticino, passing through stunning countryside packed with aquatic wildlife.
The route returns to the road just for a short stretch between Castelletto Ticino and Sesto Calende, where we encounter the only difficult part of the ride – the climb from Sesto Calende up to Cascina Bilesa on which the gradient exceeds 15% for about 500 metres.
From there back to Ranco the route is easier and more fun.
